American Express created an exhibit of Annie Leibowitz photographs to draw people to Lower Manhattan after September 11, 2001. They wanted to create a unique display to transform their voluminous corporate lobby into an intimate space for people to view the photographs.
Creative Director Janine James of The Moderns designed an exhibit that featured seven pods based on miniature sculptures inspired by organic forms such as river stones. The shapes transformed the lobby dominated by right angles into an environment defined by soft curves. The exhibit traveled from New York to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and then to Tokyo
